How Quiz Grid works

Two to four players join a game with a five-letter code, each on their own phone. The board has four specific categories as columns and rows worth from 100 points up to 400 or 500 – the higher the value, the harder the question. The player whose turn it is picks a square, everyone reads the question, and then the buzzer opens.

Whoever buzzes first gets to type an answer. A right answer wins the points and the next pick. A wrong answer costs as many points as the square is worth, and the others get a chance. Not buzzing costs nothing, so it pays to know when to stay quiet.

The hidden double

One square on the board is a hidden double. Only the player who finds it gets to answer, and before seeing the question, they decide how much to bet. Get it right and win the bet; get it wrong and lose it. It can turn the whole game around late in the game.

Fair play built in

The clock runs on the server, so every phone is equally fast, and the first buzz to arrive wins. Answers are judged automatically, and a player who thinks they were judged wrongly can dispute it – the others vote after the square is settled, when everyone can see the right answer.

If someone loses connection or leaves, the game carries on without them – they simply miss their turn and can come back in at any time.

Play alone: the Daily 4x4

No one to play with? The Daily 4x4 is a solo version with one new board every day, the same for everyone, with no clock at all. Quiz Grid itself is free, runs in the browser and needs no account.
